India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a brisk innings of 25 off 40 balls to help India post a total of 364, setting England a target of 371 runs on Day 4 of the ongoing first Test at Headingley, Leeds.

Jadeja came to the crease after KL Rahul’s dismissal, joining Karun Nair. The left-hander began cautiously but shifted gears as wickets tumbled at the other end. In the 95th over, he took on Josh Tongue, hitting a six and a four off consecutive deliveries — the six sailing over the deep square leg boundary. Jadeja shared a 14-run stand with Shardul Thakur and added a further 15 runs with Prasidh Krishna to push India past the 350-mark. He remained unbeaten on 25, including two boundaries and a six.

India experienced yet another batting collapse in the second innings. From a strong position at 333/5 following KL Rahul’s dismissal, the last five wickets fell for just 31 runs. Shardul Thakur could manage only four runs, having scored just one in the first innings. The final three batters — Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna — were all dismissed for ducks.

In the first innings, India were cruising at 430/4 but then lost the final six wickets for only 41 runs. For England, Brydon Carse and Josh Tongue claimed three wickets apiece, while Shoaib Bashir picked up two.

At stumps on Day 4, England are 21 without loss. They need 350 more runs to win, while India require ten wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
