After an 18-year wait, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have finally lifted the IPL trophy. Virat Kohli fell to the ground on his knees, overwhelmed with joy and so did millions of RCB fans. They celebrated, cried, and celebrated again in unison, many watching on television screens, some on their mobile phones, while a lucky few witnessed it all live in the stadium.
Today, in Bengaluru, the day is all about celebrating the team that has stood tall with its fans. One of the most loyal fanbases in the world will get their reward, as RCB landed in the city around 3 pm. Fans lining the streets outside the airport lost their minds the moment they caught a glimpse of the team bus.
They had gathered in huge numbers, at the airport, on the streets, outside the team hotel, and even at the Vidhana Soudha, to welcome their heroes and idols. And all eyes were on one man: Virat Kohli, the player who has given everything to this franchise.
Kohli sat at the front of the team bus, right next to the driver, with the trophy in hand so fans could see the sight they had waited and yearned for over the past 18 years.
The crowd erupted the moment they realised what was happening. There wasn’t much time to soak it all in as the buses sped past. But when they spotted Kohli, with the trophy, sitting beside the driver, the only way they could express their emotions was to scream at the top of their lungs.
An 18-year dream has finally come to fruition and Bengaluru will celebrate all day long.
