In the 52nd match of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are playing against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, aiming to move one step closer in the race for qualification. In this clash, CSK’s Matheesha Pathirana shone brightly as he took crucial wickets while conceding 36 runs in his four overs at an economy rate of 9.0, helping CSK restrict RCB to 213 runs for the loss of five wickets — three of which were claimed by Pathirana himself.

The Sri Lankan pacer dismissed RCB opener Jacob Bethell, who was on fire with 55 runs off 33 balls, and later sent back Devdutt Padikkal for 17. He also removed RCB skipper Rajat Patidar for just 11. His three key wickets helped CSK slow down the scoring rate of RCB’s batting line-up. Pathirana’s variations and pinpoint execution under pressure reaffirmed why he is regarded as a go-to bowler in tight situations.

With this performance, Pathirana now has 12 wickets from 9 matches in the 2025 season, maintaining an average of 27.83. However, his economy rate of 10.22 reflects the challenges he has faced in this year’s high-scoring encounters. Overall, his IPL stats are impressive, with 46 wickets from 29 matches at an average of 20.13 and a strike rate of 14.07.

Although CSK cannot qualify this year, Pathirana’s spell helped shift the momentum in their favour, giving them a chance to add at least a few more points before they officially sign off from this year’s tournament.
