As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) gear up for their fourth home game of IPL 2025 against Rajasthan Royals (RR), captain Rajat Patidar has shed light on the difficulties of batting at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium this season. Contrary to its reputation as a high-scoring venue, Patidar pointed out that the pitches have been two-paced, with variable bounce posing a real challenge for batters.

“It’s true, shot selection matters a lot,” Rajat Patidar as quoted by ESPNcricinfo. “The wickets have been two-paced and the bounce unpredictable. Bowlers are getting a lot of assistance—whether it’s the dip or the bounce—so batters need to focus more on hitting behind square.”

RCB’s story at home has been grim so far: three matches, three defeats, all while batting first. Despite Chinnaswamy’s flat-track legacy, RCB are yet to breach the 200-run mark at home this season. Their batters have struggled to adapt to the changing conditions, and early collapses have often left them with below-par totals that were difficult to defend, especially with dew aiding the chasing sides.

Interestingly, Rajasthan Royals have had the upper hand at this venue, winning four of their nine matches here. However, RCB will draw confidence from their earlier nine-wicket win over RR this season, where Phil Salt’s 65 off 33 set the tone.

With a better understanding of their home conditions, RCB will be hopeful of finally breaking their home jinx against a misfiring RR.
