India women made it three wins out of three to clinch the T20I series against Sri Lanka convincingly, and the spotlight firmly belonged to Renuka Singh Thakur. Playing her first match of the series, Renuka produced a sensational comeback performance, picking up four wickets and walking away with the Player of the Match award. Speaking to the media after the game, Renuka reflected on her return, her bond with Kerala, and the larger goals of the Indian bowling unit.
On the Series-Clinch and the Match
“Awesome. If we win the series, it will be good,” Renuka said with a smile, summing up India’s dominant run in the series. The pacer looked relaxed and satisfied after contributing decisively to the team’s success.
On Her Comeback Performance
Reflecting on her own spell, Renuka admitted the performance meant a lot. “My performance was good. I haven’t played T20 cricket for a long time, so I am happy,” she said, underlining the confidence boost that comes with making an immediate impact after time away.
On Playing in Kerala: Her ‘Lucky Ground’
Renuka spoke warmly about Thiruvananthapuram, calling it her favourite venue. “Kerala is my lucky place. I have played cricket here since I was 19 years old. Whenever I have played, I have taken four wickets,” she said. The familiarity and positive memories, according to her, play a big role in her mindset. “I get a positive feeling that I have already done well (over here), and that gives me confidence and motivation.”
On India’s Bowling Combination and World Cup Focus
Looking ahead, Renuka highlighted the collective effort of the bowling unit. “The bowling department is doing well. The combination of pacers and spinners is good. We are trying to find a better combination for the World Cup,” she explained. Emphasising long-term standards, she added, “We want to keep our standards high and take women’s cricket to the next level.”
On the Conditions
The conditions in Kerala suited her perfectly. “The weather was not too hot, and I enjoyed it,” Renuka said, reiterating how comfort and confidence combined to produce another memorable outing at a ground that clearly brings out her best.
