We are all in London for the final stop on this long and intense tour of England. For Sharmistha and me it is nearly three months — we had come mid-May. For the others, it will be two months away from home. But not one of the nine here has complained for a day. Nor the 35 back in India, who have worked day in and day out. Editing shifts, publishing duties, subbing copies, things have worked like clockwork and that’s why we as a team have delivered.
As we start the coverage from the Oval, it is essential I take time and celebrate my team. From finance, who within 30 minutes of a phone call managed to sort out international payments when properties cancelled bookings at the last minute (it is quite a racket now!), to office administration led by Uma Roy, who sorted forex card issues in a jiffy, it has been teamwork at its best.
With three streams, we have produced content more than any three television channels put together. English, Hindi or Bangla, the flow has been relentless. And the multiple editors back in India led by Arka have all been doing long hours. Swapnil, Neel, Avinaba and Anushka, well done.
To the written backend team who also reported, Shamik, Atreyo, Bharath, Abhishek, Snehasish, Vaibhav, the effort has been as good as Woakes and Carse!
To the publishing team headed by Rahul, the resilience has been no less than the Jadeja innings in Manchester. Early mornings or late nights, Rahul, Divya, Snehasis, Pampa, Prakash and the team, well done.
Finally to the team here, it has been a manic ride. From producing shows to making schedules to reporting, Trisha and Rohan have multi-tasked every day. Subhayan, Rohit and Amit held the Hindi together. Debasis has taken some incredible photos while waking up daily at 6 am to do the show with Agni. Gargi has done every show with me with passion and to keep up isn’t easy. She has grown and excellence is the watchword.
Finally to Sharmistha. To keep working on the studio with multiple stakeholders back home virtually, and also keeping the wheel running here has been an amazing job.
In sum, we have delivered as a team. In our three years and eight months of existence, this England tour will rank alongside the Paris Olympics and Paralympics as the best work done. And the feedback is overwhelming.
Let me give you one example to sum up. The Miracle in Manchester had happened and Gargi and I had just finished our post-match show. She asked me if she could go back inside and soak it all in, while I was still there at Trafford Town Hall enjoying the moment. That’s when Amit walked across with a gentleman and a boy of 12. The man came running and said, “I was watching your show from the other side of the road. It is part of my daily routine. I make my son see it every day for he learns a lot. He plays for Junior Lancs. Bless him.”
Words are my friends but I was just smiling. If this young lad feels inspired seeing our work, the quest is on track. We will make a difference and create legacy. Proud of my team. RevSportz rocks.
