RevSportz Was a Risk Worth Taking

RevSportz turns two, and I want to extend my congratulations to every team member, led by Boria Majumdar. They’ve worked tirelessly around the clock, delivering on every occasion. My journey began on October 1, 2022, when Boria da offered me a chance to join the team. Despite initial doubts about leaving a well-established organisation in New Delhi to join a start-up in Kolkata, Boria da’s assurance and confidence summed up the vision and passion he had for RevSportz. After a couple of days, it was sealed. I was going back to my home city of Kolkata to join an enterprising team that was still in single digits at the time.

After the announcement, I received calls and messages from peers and seniors in the industry. The common question, especially for someone who had mostly covered cricket, was, “Why join RevSportz? Isn’t Boria banned by the BCCI?” I responded: “The company hasn’t faced any sanction. Let’s see if I am capable enough to help RevSportz grow into a popular sports platform. Cricket is not the end of it.” Being a risk-taker, I can confidently say this was a risk worth taking. Despite challenges covering events like the Women’s T20 World Cup, Asia Cup, and the ODI World Cup, I wouldn’t change my decision.

Many on social media have certain perceptions, with some jumping to troll and abuse, regardless of the quality work we produce. However, a significant chunk have joined us on our journey, appreciating our stories and criticising us when there are errors. While I have no time for trolls, I heartily appreciate the plaudits and criticism from our regular readers. Yes, we are far from perfect, but we aim to be a better version every day — that’s what sport teaches us, right?

In this industry for a decade, and having worked with four major news organizations, I can easily say that their coverage starts and ends with cricket unless some other sport or athlete is trending heavily. RevSportz is different. By sending multiple reporters for the FIFA World Cup, Commonwealth Games, Asian Games, Para Asian Games, along with the Women’s T20 World Cup, Asia Cup, and ODI World Cup, RevSportz has disrupted the industry with its range of coverage. It also gives chances to youngsters for on-ground coverage, something I don’t think any other media organization has replicated so far.

Our reader/viewer base is increasing day by day, and investors and sponsors have backed us at every phase. A big thank you to them for trusting in our vision. To every team member of RevSportz, you’ve been amazing. I would end with a Michael Phelps quote: “You dream. You plan. You reach. There will be obstacles. There will be doubters. There will be mistakes. But with hard work, with belief, with confidence and trust in yourself and those around you, there are no limits.”

Cheers to the incredible journey ahead!
