Sai Sudharsan vs KKR, IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans’ opener Sai Sudharsan could miss several weeks of cricket after suffering a rib fracture during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The injury comes at an unfortunate time for the 24-year-old left-hander, who was looking to build strong momentum ahead of IPL 2026.

Sudharsan picked up the injury during a Vijay Hazare Trophy match on December 26. He later reported pain on the right side of his rib cage and was referred to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence on December 29.

Subsequent scans confirmed a slender fracture of his right seventh rib, due to which he has been ruled out of the tournament. Sudharsan initially felt discomfort after being hit by a ball during net practice earlier in the tournament but continued to play.

The BCCI medical team has placed Sudharsan on a structured rehabilitation programme. He will initially focus on lower-body training while allowing the ribs to heal. Once the symptoms reduce, upper-body workouts will be added as part of his return-to-fitness plan.

The setback is a major concern for Gujarat Titans, as Sudharsan is a crucial part of their batting unit. In the last IPL season, he was in destructive form and finished as the Orange Cap winner. He scored 759 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.32.

In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025, Sudharsan scored 192 runs in six innings at an average of 38.40 and a strike rate of 152.38. Before suffering the injury, he had scored 99 runs in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.
