On his return to the T20I team, Rinku Singh smashed a quickfire 44 off 20 balls as India finished strongly to post a mammoth total of 238 in the first innings of the opening T20I of the five-match series against New Zealand.
Coming in to bat in the 14th over at the VCA Stadium in Jamtha, Nagpur, Rinku smoked three sixes and four fours in his enterprising innings. A total of 21 runs came off the final over, which was bowled by Daryl Mitchell, a tactic that backfired. Mitchell does not bowl often in this format, and Rinku took full toll of his medium-pace bowling.
This was only Rinku’s third appearance since the Asia Cup last year. Although he was part of the squad, he faced just one ball in the final against Pakistan, which he struck for four to take India to victory. The southpaw was also selected for the Australia tour. Once again, he played only one match in Brisbane, where the UP-based cricketer did not get to bat as persistent rain washed out the game.
In the final two overs of T20Is, Rinku has scored 213 runs off just 74 deliveries at a blistering strike rate of 287.83. He has struck 22 sixes and 14 fours in this phase.
Overall, Rinku has scored over 600 runs in his short T20I career at an average in excess of 45.
