India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has shared a heartfelt tribute to Nicholas Pooran after the West Indies cricketer announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. Pooran, aged just 29, made the surprise decision on 10 June, choosing to shift his focus entirely to franchise cricket.

Pant and Pooran spent over two months together with the Lucknow Super Giants during IPL 2025, and their strong bond was evident both on and off the field. Taking to his Instagram story, Pant expressed his admiration and respect, writing:

“You have made your mark, bro — a true teammate, friend and an absolute powerhouse. Proud to have shared the field with you. Congrats on everything you have done for West Indies cricket. Wishing you nothing but success for the road ahead. Respect always. @nicholaspooran”

Pooran had an outstanding IPL season in 2025, scoring 524 runs in 14 matches for LSG, including five half-centuries and an impressive tally of 40 sixes. Pant, on the other hand, had a relatively quiet season but signed off with a century in the final match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Although Pooran never played a Test match for the West Indies, he was a key figure in their white-ball setup, amassing 1,983 runs in 61 ODIs and 2,275 runs in 106 T20Is. He also captained the national side in 2022 before stepping down following the T20 World Cup.

Pooran will now lead MI New York in Major League Cricket as he embarks on a new chapter in his cricketing journey.
