Rishabh Pant set for Test return

Rishabh Pant is set to return to the Indian team for the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa. The wicketkeeper-batsman, who suffered a foot injury during the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in August, has proved his match fitness, as he led India A in the multi-day fixture against South Africa A. He will replace N Jagadeesan in the Test squad, it is learnt.

The Test squad that won 2-0 against West Indies is unlikely to have many tweaks. Pant is the side’s designated vice-captain and when he is fit, he walks in. The only other change could be Akash Deep replacing Prasidh Krishna. Akash picked up an injury during the England tour and when the squad for the West Indies series was announced, he had just completed his rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. He has since played Ranji Trophy matches for Bengal. Mohammed Shami and Sarfaraz Khan, however, are unlikely to get the nod.

India will play two Tests against reigning world Test champions South Africa — in Kolkata from November 14, followed by the second match at Guwahati from November 22.
