Rishabh Pant, India wicketkeeper-batter, has been ruled out of the  rest of the five-match Test series versus England due to a fracture on his right toe. Sources to Revsportz also confirmed that the experienced cricketer has been advised six weeks of rest in order to recuperate from the injury.

In the second session of the Old Trafford Test, while batting on 37, Pant attempted a pre-meditated reverse sweep off Chris Woakes. He could only eke out an inside edge, with the ball hitting the boot. As soon as he took the blow, Pant grimaced in pain, while the affected part swelled up. He tried to walk off the field with the help of the physio and his teammates but couldn’t. Eventually, he had to be driven off the field in a buggy.

Initially, Pant was taken to the medical facility available at the stadium. Shubman Gill, India skipper, was also seen making his way out to the medical facility to enquire about Pant’s health. Later, Pant was taken to the hospital, with the scans showing a fracture.

It remains to be seen whether Pant will be able to bat during the course of the match with the help of painkillers. As per the statement of the team, “he will bat as per the team’s requirements”. Incidentally, Pant also sustained a finger injury in the third Test at Lord’s, which prevented him from taking over ‘keeping duties.
