Indian captain Rohit Sharma has voiced his support for Suryakumar Yadav’s growth in ODI cricket, despite his inconsistency in the format. Rohit stressed upon Suryakumar’s efforts to improve his mindset and approach while seeking guidance from experienced ODI players.
Recognized as a top-tier T20 batter on the international stage, Suryakumar has faced challenges in transitioning to ODI cricket.
“There is no question about his ability in the T20 format. The challenges (in ODIs) are different. He is really working hard and he is talking to a lot of guys who have played a lot of ODI cricket as to what attitude and mindset (to have). Surya is also in the mix. The team management backs him to come good in ODIs, but despite the chances, he is yet to adapt,” Rohit Sharma said on the sidelines of a La Liga event in Mumbai.
Across his 26 ODIs, Suryakumar has amassed a total of 511 runs, maintaining an average of 24.33. This performance falls below expectations, casting uncertainty on his inclusion in the Indian team for the forthcoming Asia Cup and ODI World Cup.
