While assessing India’s performance in a rain-affected match against Nepal on Monday, September 4, Rohit Sharma, the captain, expressed satisfaction with the bowling but voiced concerns about fielding lapses. He emphasized the need for improvement in this aspect of their game.

“The bowling was okay today but the fielding was bad, we need to improve on that,” he said in the post-match presentation after India’s 10-wicket win.

Rohit, who struggled against Pakistan’s formidable pace attack in the rain-abandoned opening group match, showed his class with the bat at the top of the order with an unbeaten 74-run knock. Accompanying him, Shubman Gill contributed an impressive 67 not out.

Batting first, Nepal were dismissed for 230. However, due to a prolonged rain delay lasting nearly two hours, the Indian target was adjusted to 145 runs from 23 overs.

Rohit emphasized that the ongoing tournament would be instrumental in fine-tuning their World Cup squad, despite the limited number of matches in this year’s Asia Cup.

“When we came here, we knew what our World Cup 15 is going to be like, the Asia Cup was not going to give us a better picture because it was only two [group] games,” said Rohit.

With the squad now announced, India can turn their focus back to the Asia Cup and an enticing clash with Pakistan on Sunday.
