Amidst discussions and speculations on India’s playing XI for their opening Asia Cup match against Pakistan in Kandy, captain Rohit Sharma has stated they have various combinations to consider, given how the pitch behaved during the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh game. He emphasised that his experienced batters will adopt an aggressive approach, although the tack might change depending on the situation.
“All sorts of combinations are available, looking at how the game was played yesterday. We have got experience in our batting line-up. Batters have to play accordingly. We will try to take the game on but it is important to read the situation. Being aggressive is important but at the same time, the players will take their decisions in the middle,” said Rohit at the pre-match press conference.
India face Pakistan on Saturday (September 2) in Kandy. This will be the first encounter between the two teams at this venue. Also, this match will be their first ODI meeting since the 2019 World Cup.
India are currently grappling selection challenges, especially regarding the batting order and the wicketkeeper-batter’s position, due to KL Rahul’s unavailability for the first two games. It will be interesting to see how the team fills this void.
