Rohit Sharma has added another feather to his cap by attaining the No. 1 ranking in ODIs for the first time in his cricketing career. The experienced India opener has been a consistent performer for over a decade, but this is the first time he has reached the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Batter Rankings.

Rohit earned the No. 1 position following his brilliant performance in the ODI series against Australia. He remained unbeaten and scored a century in the third ODI, helping India secure a nine-wicket victory in Sydney. In his unbeaten innings of 121, the former India captain struck 13 fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 96.80. Despite a single-digit score earlier in the series, Rohit finished as the highest run-scorer with a total of 202 runs at an average of 101.00.

Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, ensured India were not whitewashed in the series. Virat played a solid unbeaten innings of 74 runs. Rohit’s 33rd ODI century helped him surpass Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran, who is now in second place, and his teammate and new India captain Shubman Gill, who is in third, to claim the No. 1 spot.

Other Indian players also improved their ICC rankings. Axar Patel has moved up six places to reach 31st in the ODI bowling rankings and climbed to eighth in the all-rounders list after his strong performance against Australia. New Zealand white-ball captain Mitchell Santner and Australia’s Josh Hazlewood have also risen in the bowling rankings, while England’s white-ball captain Harry Brook, who scored a century in the first ODI against New Zealand, climbed 23 spots to reach 25th among ODI batters.
