The BCCI have probably dropped a major hint about the team composition, and captaincy, for the three-match ODI series in Australia. Video footage shared by the BCCI on their X (formerly Twitter) handle showed Rohit Sharma having a joint session with KL Rahul at the cricket board’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bangalore.

The post read: “As part of their preparation for the upcoming assignments, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul trained at the BCCI Centre Of Excellence focusing on skills and strength training.” It added: “Both players simulated the different conditions on offer at the CoE during their stint.”

For Rahul, a two-match Test series against the West Indies, starting in Ahmedabad on October 2, would be his first major upcoming assignment before the white-ball tour of Australia. Rohit is retired from Tests and there has been talk about his ODI future. He hasn’t played competitive cricket since the IPL, and he isn’t part of the India A team for the limited-over matches against Australia A either. But now, it’s all but certain that Rohit will lead India in the three ODIs Down Under, to be played in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney on October 19, 23 and 25 respectively.

Rohit had a fruitful session at CoE, returned to Mumbai before leaving for Kolkata for an ad shoot. During his time at CoE, he had a session with the Colts. VVS Laxman, the CoE head, thanked Rohit for motivating the youngsters. The former India great posted on X: “Thank you @ImRo45 for inspiring the Under-19 boys. Your words reminded them that while talent can take you far, it is belief and hard work that take you further. You showed them that cricket is not only about runs and wickets but also about character, resilience and the courage to chase dreams without fear. May your words guide them to success on and off the field.”
