Former India captain Rohit Sharma said that he loves playing in Australia, ahead of the three-match ODI series Down Under, which starts on 19 October. Speaking at the CEAT Cricket Awards show before the upcoming Australia series, Rohit shared his experience of playing cricket in Australia.
“I love playing against Australia, love going there. People in Australia love cricket a lot,” Rohit said at the event in Mumbai. “But certainly, Australia is a different challenge every time they have played against us. Having been there now several times, I do understand what to expect. Hopefully we can go there and do what the Indian team is supposed to do and get the result in our favour.”
India are set to tour Australia for a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series. The squads for both ODIs and T20Is were announced a few days ago, with Shubman Gill named as the new captain of the ODI team, marking the end of Rohit’s tenure as skipper.
Rohit has a phenomenal batting record in ODIs played in Australia. He has scored 1,328 runs in 30 matches at an average of 53.12, including five centuries and four fifties. The Indian opener also holds the record for hitting the most sixes in ODIs against Australia.
The selectors have chosen a team that strikes a balance between youth and experience. India’s premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODIs. In his absence, Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace attack, which includes Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana.
India’s batting line-up looks strong with Rohit, Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer at the top. KL Rahul and Axar Patel will look after the lower-middle order. In the spin department, they have Kuldeep Yadav, who recently had a fantastic Asia Cup 2025. Axar and Washington Sundar will add depth and variety to India’s spin options.
