Rohit Sharma, India’s captain, took on the role of a reporter and questioned Ajinkya Rahane, the vice-captain, ahead of the first Test against West Indies in Dominica.
The banter between Rohit and Rahane during the press conference delighted fans on social media. Rohit asked Rahane for advice for the young players in the squad.
Rahane emphasized the importance of patience, adapting to the country, and staying focused on the game, rather than thinking about other distractions. The video of their interaction quickly went viral. The upcoming Test series marks India’s return to red-ball cricket after their loss in the World Test Championship Final (WTC) against Australia.
“You have been to West Indies before, played a lot of cricket on these wickets,” said Rohit. “What will be your message to the young players?”
“My message to youngsters and everyone is that patience is very important,” replied Rahane. “The atmosphere here is quite chilled. How important is it for cricketers to focus, and not to think what they have to do after 5 pm. You have to adapt to the country you are in. You have to keep your focus on the ground. There’s no need to focus elsewhere.”
