Naman Suri in Mumbai
The Hitman’s show failed to hit a peak as he mishit Yudhvir Singh to Abid Mushtaq at midwicket after hitting 3 sixes and 2 fours in his 35-ball stint during Mumbai’s second innings of the Ranji Trophy Group A fixture against Jammu & Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Academy in BKC, Mumbai.
After Jammu & Kashmir were bowled out for 206, a lead of 86 runs, Mumbai got off to a great start as both Indian internationals, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, looked in fine nick, dispatching anything loose and wide with ease. Rohit’s strike-rate off the first eight balls, in fact, hovered around the 200 mark.
He took on Umar Nazir Mir, the bowler who had dismissed him in the first innings, smashing him for a six and a couple of fours. However, a good and fluent start by India’s red-ball captain couldn’t be converted into something big. On 28, he looked to drive, but a slower delivery outfoxed him.

Before faltering, Rohit did show his class, hitting one of the most elegant shots of the day — his third six, a beautiful lofted drive over the sightscreen off pacer Yudhvir.
The duo, however, helped their team race to 50 within the first 10 overs. Hardik Tamore, who came in one-down, was dismissed immediately after Rohit’s wicket, and things started to unravel for Mumbai.
Jaiswal, who looked set on 26 after a patient start, perished while trying to break the shackles, slicing a cut shot straight to gully. It was a disappointing dismissal for the young star, and it knocked Mumbai further back as they strove for the come-from-behind win they need to save their season.
