Former New Zealand captain Ross Taylor hopes to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli play in the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2027, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Speaking at the launch event of the Champions League T10 Noida Trophy, Taylor said that the world wants to see the two stalwarts participate in the next 50-over World Cup. He believes both are still scoring runs and are fit enough to continue until 2027.

“Well, you look at Virat and Rohit themselves – they’re still very fit and still scoring runs, so really, it’s up to them and what they want to do,” Taylor said while replying to India Today at the event. “It’s pretty taxing on their bodies, playing as much cricket as they do. They’re both parents too, spending a lot more time away from home and their kids. The world wants to see them there, and hopefully – from both a world cricket and Indian cricket point of view – they’ll be there in 2027.”

Taylor also recalled his first meeting with Kohli, who turned out to be a promising player not just for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) but also for India across all formats.

“He was a very young 18 or 19-year-old – a slightly chubby Virat Kohli. Cameron White said, ‘Watch this guy. He’s going to be world-class.’ He looked OK, but he’s turned out to be a fantastic player. Obviously, he’s been very loyal to RCB, and what he’s done for Indian and world cricket has been fantastic. I suppose I’ve always had a soft spot for him because I’ve seen him grow up from a teenager. So, it’s nice for RCB to finally get across the line this year and win the IPL,” he added.
