That Pragyan Ojha is in the running to become a national selector has been widely reported. Now, according to reports, Rudra Pratap (RP) Singh could be the other new selector, as a couple of positions in the BCCI men’s senior selection committee are set to fall vacant.

Subroto Banerjee (Central Zone) and S Sharath (South Zone), are likely to be replaced by RP and Ojha respectively, the two former India cricketers. It appears that RP has staved off competition from Praveen Kumar and Ashish Winston Zaidi, who also applied from the Central Zone. The former left-arm seamer played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs and 10 T20Is. Ojha, an ex-left-arm spinner, featured in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs and six T20Is.

The BCCI invited applications for the positions of two national selectors last month, with the criteria set at a minimum of seven Tests, or 30 first-class matches; or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class games. The applicants should have retired from the game at least five years prior. RP’s last appearance in a first-class fixture was in 2017, while Ojha hung up his boots in 2018.
