Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town will host both the opening match and the final of the 2025–26 SA20 season, organisers confirmed on Friday, 22 August.

The six-team tournament will begin on 26 December, with defending champions MI Cape Town facing Durban’s Super Giants. The final is scheduled for 25 January. Durban will also make history by hosting the playoffs for the first time.

SA20 commissioner Graeme Smith said the tournament promises plenty of action for fans.

“SA20 Season 4 is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting summer of cricket, kicking off on Boxing Day and running through the holiday period,” said Smith. “Last year, Newlands sold out all five matches at the venue, and with the final taking place on a Sunday, it sets up an incredible afternoon with great weather, entertainment and a lively atmosphere to crown our Season 4 champions.”

Durban will host Qualifier 1 on 21 January, followed by the Eliminator in Centurion on 23 January. Qualifier 2 will be held in Johannesburg on 24 January.

“Durban will host a playoff for the first time. We are hoping this will excite the fans, especially as the two best teams of the competition will be playing in that Qualifier 1,” Smith noted.

Smith also highlighted the importance of effective venue scheduling:

“We’re also excited to return to Centurion and the Wanderers on Thursday and Friday nights. It’s always key to have the venues close together because the matches are a day apart.”

Before the tournament begins, all teams will participate in the player auction on 9 September to complete their respective squads.
