Sam Konstas is preparing for a crucial Sheffield Shield season as he wants to hold on to his place in Australia’s Test team for the upcoming Ashes. After a tough series against the West Indies, the young batter knows he needs to deliver consistent performances in domestic cricket.

It’s massive, its going to be a big four games and I expect that,” Konstas said, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo, on the day he signed a new four-year deal with Sydney Thunder until 2029.

Konstas struggled in the West Indies tour, where he scored only 50 runs in six innings. It was his first Test series since debuting against India last season. The conditions were difficult for both teams, but the low returns left him disappointed.

But for me, (it’s about) just being in the present moment, don’t get too fixated about the outcome and just be very process-driven in those games. Not getting too fazed about what other people say, and obviously have that inner circle that I trust,” he said.

The young batter has returned to training with New South Wales and is set to feature in the four-day leg of the Australia A tour of India before the Shield which starts in October.

Konstas concluded by saying, Adopting the right mindset, training hard, not leaving any regrets. For me, that’s the big thing, just the way I prepare, and especially with the people that I trust, having honest conversations with them when necessary and leaving it to that.”
