Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson has been an integral part of the franchise since 2013. Ahead of IPL 2021, he became the captain and led the team to the final of IPL 2022, which unfortunately RR lost to Gujarat Titans (GT). But now, speculations have emerged that Samson might not continue with the franchise and could don a new IPL team jersey from 2026.
Amidst all these speculations, in a free-wheeling chat with former RR spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on his show ‘Kutti Stories with Ash’, Samson shared how the captaincy stint at RR has helped him to understand the game better.
“Captaincy has opened up my perspective and helped me to accept these kinds of ways. There is no one way of succeeding in cricket. I don’t believe that there is only one way. When people are trying different things, I like to back them instead of questioning them,” he said.
Samson also said that when he was not a captain, he used to focus only on his individual game. But after having the captaincy responsibility, he understood the importance of knowing and understanding all players in the team for success.
“Before I was a captain, I was a player; at that time, it was only about my ways. I’m like, I need to do these things, these kinds of practices. I need to score runs in these kinds of patterns, and that is how success is made,” Samson added.
