Australian pacer Scott Boland reckons that England’s aggressive batting approach in Australia’s bowler-friendly conditions will keep the hosts in the contest throughout the Ashes series, set to begin later this year.
Ever since the time Brendon McCullum has taken charge as head coach and Ben Stokes as captain, England Test team have been playing an aggresive brand of cricket. And largely due to that, the pitches in England have been largely on the flatter side. In contrast, the wickets in Australia have favoured fast bowlers a lot. If the pitches play similiar to how they’ve in the last few summers then Boland feels the Australians will be in the game against England who are expected to play aggressively.
“They’re going to play aggressively,” Boland told reporters in Melbourne. “If the wickets stay similar to what they’ve been over the last few years, I think we’re going to be in the game all the time.
Boland, who took 18 wickets at 9.55 in his debut Ashes series in 2021-22, took just two wickets at 115.50 in the 2023 Ashes in England where he played just the two Tests. The Victorian pacer underlined how Australian conditions have been vastly different from that to England.
“There were little parts of the England tour last time, when the ball sort of moved around and favoured the bowlers, but generally over there, the wickets have been a bit flatter. And then when you come to Australia, certainly the last three or four years, they’ve been bowler friendly.”
If fit and available for selection, Boland, who averages 16.53 with the ball in Test cricket, is going to be picked for the Ashes series down under.
