Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) have disclosed that Sean Williams will not be available for selection in the future after the veteran cricketer decided not to play in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers held this year.

Williams took the decision to enter rehabilitation. In an internal investigation, he confessed about his struggles with drug addiction.

The board said in a media release: “ZC expects all contracted players to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and compliance with team protocols and anti-doping regulations.”

The statement also added that Willams’ past revealed “a history of disciplinary issues and repeated unavailability, which has impacted team preparations and performance.”

ZC recommended the left-hand batter to take help but the board also noted that such incidents “raises serious concerns regarding professional and ethical standards”.

The board has also decided that it would be

“not feasible to continue his national contract beyond its expiry on 31 December 2025″.

ZC, though, did not forget to thank Williams for his service to Zimbabwe cricket and observed that the 39-year-old “played a pivotal role in some of the most significant moments in our recent history, leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the field”.

The board also wished Williams success in his future endeavours: “ZC wishes him strength in his recovery and every success in his future endeavours.”
