India’s star veteran batter Virat Kohli continued his great form with the bat as he notched up two back-to-back centuries in the ongoing home ODI series against South Africa. After a 135-run knock in Ranchi, he played a brilliant knock of 102 in Raipur. It was the 195-run partnership between him and Ruturaj Gaikwad that set the tone for the Men in Blue as they posted 358/5 in 50 overs.
It was Kohli’s 53rd ODI ton and overall his 84th international ton. Seeing that knock, former Team India batter Virender Sehwag came up with praise on X (formerly known as Twitter).
He wrote: “Virat Kohli ko 100 ka nasha hi alag hai. Hum log centuries gin rahe hote hain, woh bas routine ka kaam samajh ke kar deta hai. Back-to-back 100’s for the King. 53rd ODI hundred. Virat hai toh mumkin hai. A brilliant century from Ruturaj Gaikwad as well making batting look very easy.”
Kohli came to bat in the fifth over when India lost Rohit Sharma’s wicket. The 37-year-old then stitched a 195-run stand with Ruturaj Gaikwad, who also notched up his maiden ODI ton. Kohli’s knock came in 93 balls which included seven fours and two sixes at a strike rate of 109.68.
Kohli is also showing a rich vein of form in the 50-over format. After two back-to-back ducks in the first two ODIs in Australia, he now has three consecutive 50+ scores (unbeaten 74 in Sydney, 135 in Ranchi, and 102 in Raipur).
