Mohun Bagan Super Giant have confirmed a major change in their technical set-up. Sergio Lobera Rodríguez has officially replaced Jose Molina as the club’s new head coach for the remainder of the season.
The deal was sealed on Wednesday, and the Spanish tactician will begin training with the squad from November 30. Players including Jamie Maclaren, Jason Cummings, and Vishal Kaith are expected to join the first session under the new regime.
Lobera is no stranger to Indian football. With an ISL Shield and league title already on his resume, along with coaching experience at FC Barcelona’s youth structure, the 47-year-old arrives with a reputation for attacking football and tactical discipline. It is this combination that convinced the Mohun Bagan management to hand him responsibility at a crucial stage of the season.
Speaking to the club’s media team after signing the contract, Lobera expressed pride and ambition. “Taking charge at Mohun Bagan Super Giant is a huge honour,” he said. “This club carries history, emotion, and ambition. My commitment is to build a team that plays with courage, identity, and a winning mentality. Together, we aim to make this chapter unforgettable.”
Lobera also praised the quality within the squad and hinted at a long-term vision. “This team has talent and heart — enough to dominate Indian football,” he added. “I’m here to take that potential even higher. Mohun Bagan belongs at the top, and we will work every single day to turn that belief into reality.”
The future of ISL isn’t clear, but with a new coach in place, Mohun Bagan enter the next phase of the season with renewed expectations.
