The Pretoria Capitals have signed Shai Hope as a replacement for Will Jacks ahead of the upcoming SA20 season.

The 31-year-old Hope will be making his debut in South Africa’s premier T20 competition, but he is no stranger to the Capitals set-up, having represented the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20.

Hope was the highest run-scorer in the ILT20 2025, amassing 527 runs in 12 matches at an average of 58.56 and a strike rate of 124.29. The West Indies captain has been in excellent form with the bat in the 20-over format. In the ongoing series against Bangladesh, he scored an unbeaten 46 in the first T20I and a 55 off 36 balls in the second.

Overall, in his international career, Hope has played 52 T20Is, scoring 1,256 runs at an average of 29.20 and a strike rate of 138.47. His record includes seven fifties and one hundred, with a highest score of an unbeaten 102.

Jacks has withdrawn after receiving a surprise call-up to England’s Ashes squad for the five-match series against Australia down under, which begins on 21 November in Perth.

The SA20 is scheduled to start on 26 December, with the opening match to be played between MI Cape Town and Durban’s Super Giants. Pretoria’s first game is against the Joburg Super Kings the following day.
