Tuesday. 4th of July. A rainy day. Sounds like the perfect set up for a boring school day but what if I told you that on this day the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 Trophy will be displayed at your school? Now this may sound like a dream to you but this was the reality of Bombay Scottish School- the only school in Mumbai to host the World Cup Trophy at its premises as part of ICC’s promotional ‘Trophy Tour’. Not only was the trophy displayed for the students of Bombay Scottish but also 20 cricket teams from top schools across Mumbai were invited to this display. This demonstrated the School’s ethos of collaboration and working together towards inspiring young minds and fostering an environment conducive for sports and academics. This initiative reaffirms the values of an education system that aims at holistic development of the student combining all forms of development- academics and sports, to help students identify their potential.
Students stood in awe as they saw the Cup entering the school premises, each one more excited than the other. For The School Cricket Team, it was a moment in paradise. The spirit of pride was contagious and the air was full of enthusiasm leading to several fanboy/girl moments. Several senior cricketers and cricket association officials took time off their busy schedule to be a part of this grand function. Mr Milind Rege, Chairman of Selectors, Mumbai Cricket Association who was also the Tournament Director of the 2011 World Cup was present at the launch and commented, ” Bombay Scottish pioneers the world of modern education with its focus on instilling values in its students and I hope that the youth offer their support to the sport.”
Speaking at the function, Sunita George, Principal, Bombay Scottish School Mahim said, ” Our school’s commitment towards excellence is noteworthy. We are proud of nurturing and cultivating young talent across sports such as squash, swimming, at international level squash players, swimmers and several renowned sportspeople is reflected through our ecosystem that promotes students to pursue sports they are interested in, support them and offer flexibility in their learning programmes. A lot of our current students are looking at pursuing a career in various sports.”
Just as how MS Dhoni and team brought to the Cup home, Bombay Scottish through this initiative aims to foster and nurture the future Dhonis to achieve laurels and expand their horizons.
