Out-of-favour India fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been selected in Bengal’s squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Since recovering from the injury he suffered during the IPL, Shami has been impressive with the ball for Bengal. His inclusion comes on the back of taking 36 wickets across formats so far this season.
Although he has been consistently overlooked by the national selectors, Shami has continued to feature regularly for Bengal. The veteran Indian pacer carried his outstanding form into the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he finished as Bengal’s leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets in seven matches at an impressive average of 14.93.
Prior to that, he claimed 20 wickets in four Ranji Trophy matches at an average of 18.60, including a five-wicket haul of 5/38.
Along with Shami, Akash Deep and Mukesh Kumar have also been picked in the squad.
Abishek Porel has been named in the 17-member squad, which will be led by Abhimanyu Easwaran.
Bengal have been placed in Elite Group B and are set to begin their campaign against Vidarbha on December 24 in Rajkot. The group also includes Assam, Baroda, Jammu and Kashmir, Hyderabad, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh.
