Debasis Sen in Kolkata
The shooting of the much-anticipated biopic on former India captain Sourav Ganguly will start in January 2026. The producer of the film, Ankur Garg of Luv Films, was in Kolkata on Tuesday along with crew members to look at the different locations where the shooting will take place. The team also visited Ganguly’s residence in Behala on Wednesday and had a discussion with his family members.
Ankur, who was at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday, was seen having a long discussion with Ganguly. The scripting of the film is almost over. The biopic, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane of Udaan fame, will have Rajkumar Rao playing the character of Ganguly. Rajkumar, who has had several hit movies in Bollywood including the likes of Newton, Aligarh, Stree, Srikanth and Kai Po Che, has already starting taking his cricket lessons.
The crew members visited the Eden Gardens, Dukhiram Cricket Coaching Centre at Aryan Club and different locations on the maidan. A major part of the film will be shot in Kolkata and Mumbai. Ankur also has plans to shoot in England and Australia. Due to the recent diplomatic issues with Pakistan, there will be no shooting in the neighbouring country.
It is learnt the biopic will mostly revolve around Ganguy’s cricketing journey. The star cast of the 250-crore-budget film is not yet finalised. It will be interesting to see who depicts the character of Ganguly’s wife, Dona. Although several names are making the rounds, both the producer and director of the film are tight-lipped about it.
It is expected that the film will be ready for release by the end of 2026.
