Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers delivered an impressive performance to beat Delhi SG Pipers 4-1 in an electrifying clash at the Hero Hockey India League held at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium. Goals from Sukhjeet Singh (1′), Jugraj Singh (17′, 38′), and Abhishek (47′) secured the Tigers’ third consecutive victory, while Gareth Furlong scored the Pipers’ only goal.
Led by Rupinder Pal Singh, the Tigers came out firing and set a league record by scoring the fastest goal this season—just 23 seconds into the match. Affan Yousuf’s precise assist allowed Sukhjeet Singh to strike a brilliant field goal from the top of the circle, catching Pipers’ goalkeeper Pawan off guard.
The Tigers doubled their lead in the 17th minute through a penalty corner (PC). Jugraj Singh’s powerful and accurate drag flick slipped through the defenders, putting the Tigers firmly in control. Despite the Pipers earning some penalty corners in this period, they failed to capitalize.
In the third quarter, the Pipers showed renewed energy, but the Tigers maintained their dominance. Jugraj Singh struck again in the 38th minute with another drag flick, extending the lead to 3-0 and becoming the league’s top scorer with three goals. Although the Tigers earned multiple penalty corners after this, the Pipers’ defense stood strong.
The Tigers continued their onslaught in the fourth quarter. Abhishek added to their tally in the 47th minute with a well-executed field goal, showcasing excellent teamwork between forwards Affan, Abhishek, and Sukhjeet. The Pipers managed a consolation goal in the 53rd minute, thanks to Gareth Furlong’s clinical penalty corner conversion. They had another chance in the 57th minute with a PC, but the Tigers’ goalkeeper made a remarkable save.
The Tigers held their ground in the final moments, securing three points and climbing to the top of the points table.
