The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued its third medical statement on Saturday, November 1, regarding Shreyas Iyer’s injury. According to the BCCI’s media release, the vice-captain of the ODI team has been discharged from a hospital in Sydney.
Iyer sustained a spleen injury while attempting a difficult catch during the third ODI against Australia on 25 October. Initially, it was believed that he had suffered a rib injury, but scans later confirmed a laceration to his spleen.
The latest update has confirmed that he is stable and recovering well under medical supervision.
In its official statement, the BCCI said: “Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25 October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding… He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today.”
The statement continued: “The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly,” said Devajit Saikia, the BCCI Honorary Secretary.
As reported by RevSportz, Iyer, who has taken a break from red-ball cricket, is expected to be out of action for around two months. The BCCI’s medical team will be monitoring his fitness closely ahead of the home ODI series against New Zealand, scheduled from 11 to 18 January.
