Shreyas Iyer injury update: Another couple of months of recovery ahead

Shreyas Iyer (PC: BCCI)

Shreyas Iyer sustained a splenic laceration while taking a running catch at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the third ODI between India and Australia. Having suffered from internal bleeding, Iyer spent some time in the ICU in Sydney as the team moved on to the rest of the tour.

Sources close to the development have now revealed more details on Shreyas Iyer’s injury and path to recovery. According to them, Iyer’s return to training will only be possible after another two months. Subsequently, the batter will need another month to regain full fitness.

The last we heard from BCCI on Iyer’s injury was on November 1, when a release from the board read: “Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25 October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding… He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today. The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury.”
