Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from the hospital on Saturday. India’s ODI vice-captain, who suffered an internal injury during the third ODI between India and Australia at the SCG on October 25, “is stable and recovering well” but will continue to stay in Sydney for his follow-up medical procedures.

“He (Shreyas) is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today,” said a BCCI statement.

Two doctors, Dr Koroush Haghighi and Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, have been part of Shreyas’ medical treatment and were monitoring things round the clock. The cricket board has acknowledged their contributions.

“The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Koroush Haghighi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for his follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly,” said the BCCI statement.

Shreyas sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while taking Alex Carey’s catch. It resulted in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. He underwent interventional trans-catheter embolisation to stop the internal bleeding. It is a standard procedure where a small catheter is passed through the artery and the bleeding area is blocked.

As RevSportz exclusively reported, Shreyas is likely to be out of competitive cricket for two months.
