Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a lower left rib cage injury in the third Australia-India ODI, at the Sydney Cricket Ground, has stayed back in Sydney for his initial recovery from the blow. The middle-order bat isn’t part of the T20I squad for the upcoming series against Australia.
While it is not a fracture, it’ll take Shreyas a few days to get clearance to travel back to India, where he will continue his recovery and rehabilitation. And whether he’ll be available for India’s next ODI series against South Africa, starting November 30, remains to be seen.
While the likes of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul flew back to India, Virat Kohli headed back to London on Sunday. Whereas the likes of Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Co., who are part of the T20I squad, have linked up with other players in Canberra to gear up for the five-match rubber, starting on October 29, at the Manuka Oval.
T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Rinku Singh, Jitesh Sharma, and others reached Canberra a few days back and already had a couple of hits at the nets. Meanwhile, Ryan ten Doeschate, a throwdown specialist, and team doctor Yogesh Parmar joined the T20I players in Canberra a couple of days back to oversee those net sessions. The entire T20I team will start training full throttle from Monday. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and selector Shiv Sunder Das are also with the squad.
Upon reaching Canberra, a few players headed to different cafes in the capital city to grab a quick bite and coffee. It has been raining in Canberra, and the forecast shows temperatures dropping to as low as zero degrees on the evening of the opening game on Wednesday.
