Shreyas Iyer will lead India A in the two multi-day matches against Australia A. Dhruv Jurel will be his deputy. Lucknow will host the games. The first match commences from September 16 and the second from September 23 — an important series which is being looked at as a selection trials for some cricketers ahead of the home Tests against the West Indies in October.

Shreyas’ omission from the Asia Cup (T20 format) squad caused public outcry. On the day of the selection, however, RevSportz reported that the middle-order batter would be in consideration for the home Test series. His India A captaincy has come along the lines of that. According to sources, a good performance or two, he is likely to replace Karun Nair in the Test squad.

The 30-year-old is currently playing the Duleep Trophy. His last Test, against England, was in February 2024. Nair, meanwhile, had his chances in the five-Test series in England. But he returned with just 205 runs from eight innings at an average of 25.62, wasting his starts.

According to a BCCI press release, KL Rahul and Mohammed Siraj, too, will be part of the ‘A’ series and will feature in the second game. The multi-day matches will be followed by three unofficial ODIs, and RevSportz has reported, Rohit Sharma is keen to turn up ahead of the white-ball series in Australia in October.
