Team India’s newly appointed captain, Shubman Gill, made his first appearance in a press conference in his new role as skipper.

He addressed the media regarding the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from India’s Test squad for the upcoming England tour. In the presence of head coach Gautam Gambhir, Gill responded to a barrage of questions from reporters and shared his honest thoughts on leading the team without two of India’s modern-day greats.

Acknowledging the additional pressure on his shoulders following Kohli and Sharma’s retirement from the format, Gill said, “There’s always pressure with every tour. These two senior players have served the country for so long; it’s not easy to fill their shoes. But it’s not an added burden—we’ve all grown used to dealing with pressure.”

He further spoke about the balance of the current squad, saying, “Yes, two experienced players are not there, but with the combination we’re going in with, we have a good mix of experience and young talent.”

Team India will soon depart for their England tour, which begins on 20 June, with Gill leading the side for the first time as captain.
