India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025 following his prolific run with the bat in the five-match Test series against England. Gill edged out the other two nominees, Ben Stokes and Wiaan Mulder, to claim the honor.
The 25-year-old was the leading scorer of the recently concluded England Test series, accumulating 754 runs in ten innings at an average of 75.40, including four centuries.
Gill became the first male cricketer to win the Player of the Month award on four occasions. He previously won the award in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025.
Following the announcement, Gill said it feels amazing to be named ICC Player of the Month, especially since it comes after his first Test series as captain.
“It feels great to be named the ICC Player of the Month for July,” he said. “This time, it holds a lot more significance since it has come for my performances during my first Test series as captain. The double ton in Birmingham is obviously something I will cherish forever and will be one of the highlights of my tour to England.”
Adding to that, he said the Test series in England was a big learning curve for him as captain.
He added, “The Test series against England was a learning experience for me as captain, and we had some outstanding performances from both sides, which I am sure players from both teams will remember for a long time. I would like to thank the jury for selecting me for this award and my teammates who have been with me throughout this exciting series. I look forward to continuing my form in the season ahead and bringing more laurels for the country.”
