In an extraordinary display of batting prowess, Gujarat Titans’ opener Shubman Gill notched up his third century of the IPL 2023 season. His sensational knock of 129 runs off just 60 deliveries against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 was a spectacle to behold, featuring seven boundaries and ten sixes. Gill’s strike rate of 215.00 showcased his aggressive intent and remarkable skill.
This century marked Gill’s third in the last four IPL innings, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star. His exceptional performance was instrumental in propelling the Titans to a massive total of 233/3 in the first innings.
Additionally, Gill surpassed the 850-run mark in IPL 2023, earning him the coveted Orange Cap as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. With an astonishing average of 60.79, Gill’s tally stands at 851 runs, comprising three centuries and four half-centuries. Notably, at the age of 23 years and 260 days, he became the youngest centurion in IPL playoffs, exemplifying his precocious talent and immense potential.
Deliberating on his magnificent innings and the circumstances prevailing in Ahmedabad, Gill expressed:
“I went to the washroom and did not know I would be wearing this [on the Orange cap]. Got a good total, hopefully we will defend this. A lot, sweat went into my eyes and I was not able to open them. We have played our best cricket when we have lost and this is one of those days.”
“The new ball held up a bit, there was not much grass on that wicket, the ball was coming on nicely and with the outfield wet it stopped swinging after 2 overs,” added Gill.
