Melbourne Renegades will continue with Simon Helmot as their head coach for at least the next three seasons, after he signed a new deal with the WBBL 10 champions.

As the Renegades prepare for their title defence, the retention of their title-winning coach comes as a major boost. Helmot, along with captain Sophie Molineux, played a key role in the team’s remarkable turnaround—from finishing at the bottom to lifting the trophy.

Helmot first took over as head coach during WBBL 07, replacing Lachie Stevens.

“We’ve got a great core group of players and people who are passionate about the club” – Helmot

“Last season was an incredibly special one for our playing group and staff, and I’m thrilled to be continuing as head coach,” Helmot said in a statement.

“Winning a title is never easy, which makes being part of this group all the more special. Led brilliantly by our General Manager, James Rosengarten, and our captain, Sophie Molineux, achieving what we did was incredibly rewarding. We’ve got a great core group of players and people who are passionate about the club, and who are fully invested into achieving more. I’m excited by what we can do next,” he further added.

The club has already made a key addition by signing all-rounder Tess Flintoff from the Melbourne Stars. Meanwhile, Ella Hayward and Georgia Prestige have left the squad. More local signings are expected to be announced in the coming days.
