The second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka began today in Colombo, with the visitors winning the toss and opting to bat first. However, it was Sri Lanka who dominated Day 1 with the ball, thanks to a disciplined bowling effort led by Vishwa Fernando and debutant Sonal Dinusha.

Dinusha, making his Test debut, made an immediate impact by claiming two wickets in his 14-over spell, conceding just 43 runs. Vishwa Fernando and Asitha Fernando also picked up two wickets apiece, while Tharindu Ratnayake and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva chipped in with one each to leave Bangladesh struggling at the end of a rain-affected day.

Despite the early promise shown by opener Shadman Islam, who scored 46 off 93 deliveries, Bangladesh failed to build any major partnerships. Mominul Haque (21 off 39), Mushfiqur Rahim (35 off 75), Litton Das (34 off 56), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (31 off 42), and Nayeem Hasan (25 off 51) all got starts but couldn’t convert them into significant innings, as wickets kept falling at regular intervals.

At stumps, Bangladesh were 220/8 after 71 overs, with Ebadot Hossain and Taijul Islam at the crease. They still have No.11 batter Nahid Rana to come on Day 2.

Rain Limits Play on Opening Day

Due to intermittent rain in Colombo, only 71 overs were bowled on the opening day. Nevertheless, Sri Lanka’s bowlers made the most of the conditions, keeping Bangladesh under constant pressure through a combination of spin and seam.

With two wickets remaining and rain still in the forecast, Bangladesh will look to add crucial runs on Day 2, while Sri Lanka will aim to wrap up the innings quickly and take control of the match.
