Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has been recalled to Bangladesh’s ODI setup as part of a 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, set to begin on July 2. Also returning are pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, who missed the recent T20I series due to injury.

The squad also includes Mohammad Naim, Shamim Hossain, Tanvir Islam, and Hasan Mahmud. Notably absent are veterans Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah, both of whom have retired from ODIs. Soumya Sarkar is also unavailable as he continues to recover from back spasms, while left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed has been omitted.

Litton’s inclusion comes after a period of poor form, which saw him dropped from the Champions Trophy squad. However, his recent appointment as Bangladesh’s T20I captain has helped pave the way for his ODI comeback.

“Litton was going through a rough patch, but time helps in recovery,” said selection committee chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain. “He’s now leading the T20I side, and we’re backing him to regain his rhythm through more time at the crease. We believe consistent ODI performances can also boost his T20I form.”

Naim, who debuted in ODIs in 2020 against Zimbabwe, has featured in eight matches so far. His recent performances in domestic cricket helped him earn a spot.

“Naim has shown similar attacking instincts to our recent white-ball openers and performed well in the Dhaka Premier League,” Ashraf added. “As for Soumya, he has a decade of experience, but we want to allow him time to fully recover before returning.”

The three-match ODI series will be played from July 2 to 8. The first two games will be held in Colombo, while the third and final ODI is scheduled for Pallekele. This series marks Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s first assignment as ODI captain.
