Sri Lanka have been dealt a major blow ahead of their upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, starting on 10 July, as star leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out due to injury.
Hasaranga, who played a vital role in Sri Lanka’s 2-1 ODI series win over Bangladesh, sustained a hamstring injury on his right leg while batting in the final game of the series. His absence will be a significant setback for the home side, especially given his form with the ball.
The spinner was the highest wicket-taker in the ODI series, finishing with nine wickets at an impressive average of 11.66. His match-winning performances were instrumental in helping Sri Lanka overturn the three-match series in their favor after losing the opening game.
As Sri Lanka continues their preparations at home, Hasaranga will travel to Colombo to begin his recovery at the High Performance Center. In his absence, Charith Asalanka will lead the T20I squad.
