Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons has acknowledged that T20I captain Litton Kumar Das is currently experiencing a rough patch and is low on confidence. However, he stressed that the team is working hard to help him regain form ahead of the second T20I against Sri Lanka in Dambulla on Sunday.

Sri Lanka currently lead the three-match T20I series 1–0, having won the opening game by seven wickets.

Litton’s struggles with the bat have continued, with no half-century in his last 17 innings across ODIs and T20Is. The wicketkeeper-batter last scored a fifty in international white-ball cricket in June 2024. He was dropped from the ODI playing XI after a golden duck in the first match of that series, and in the T20I opener, he managed just six runs.

“I think his confidence is a bit low. We know what he can produce. We are working hard to get him back to that stage. Hopefully, he can get there in the next match,” said Simmons ahead of the game.

Simmons also provided an update on Jaker Ali, who missed the first T20I due to injury, saying a decision on his availability would be taken just before the match.

“Jaker got injured before the third ODI. We are going to assess him tonight and make a decision on his position tomorrow,” Simmons explained.

When asked about possible changes to the team, Simmons said the final call would depend on pitch conditions.

“We’ll see what the conditions are like tonight. We’ll assess the wicket and decide whether to go with the same team or make changes,” he added.

With the aim of levelling the series, Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in the second T20I at the Dambulla International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, 13 July.
