The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has excluded Najmul Hossain Shanto from the 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, scheduled from 10 to 16 July. Shanto, who stepped down as T20I captain earlier this year, has been left out following a poor run of form — averaging just 18.84 across 21 matches last year.

In-form batter Mohammad Naim has been recalled in his place. Naim impressed in the NCL T20, scoring 316 runs at a strike rate of 135.04 and guiding Dhaka Metro to the final. This performance also earned him a spot in the ODI squad recently. He last featured in a T20I in August 2022 against Afghanistan.

All-rounder Mohammad Saifuddin returns to the squad after strong outings in the BPL and DPL. His last T20I appearance was during the Zimbabwe series. In the spin department, Nasum Ahmed has been selected ahead of Tanvir Islam.

Taslim, Mustafizur also back in the fold

Alongside Shanto, the likes of Soumya Sarkar, Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir Islam, Nahid Rana, and Khaled Ahmed have been dropped after featuring in the recent T20Is against Pakistan. Meanwhile, pacers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman are back in the squad after recovering from injuries and participating in the opening ODI against Sri Lanka.

The three T20Is will be held in Pallekele (July 10), Dambulla (July 13), and Colombo (July 16).
