England ODI captain Harry Brook expressed his delight after their win against Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the three-match series at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, Brook described the pitch as the ‘worst’ he has ever played on.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Brook said: “It’s nice to get a win away from home and on a tough surface. We’re happy to get the victory. The pitch is probably the worst pitch I’ve ever played on. You had to go out there and adapt as quick as possible, and just try to get off strike and get the other batter on strike.”
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat. Except for Dhananjaya de Silva (40) and Charith Asalanka (45), none of the other batters could put on any resistance. England used eight bowlers, with Joe Root, Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid contributing two wickets each to bundle out Sri Lanka for 219.
In reply, England batters were watchful from the beginning as Root anchored the innings with 75 off 90 balls, which included five fours. Brook supported him well with 42 off 75 balls to guide England to a five-wicket victory.
Brook also praised his bowlers for bundling out Sri Lanka in their familiar conditions. “The bowlers did an amazing job there. Obviously, they (Sri Lanka) are used to these conditions, so to bowl them out was awesome work from them guys.”
The series decider is set to be played in Colombo on January 27.
