Star Team India Women batter and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana led the team from the front with the bat in today’s Tri-Nation ODI Series final in Colombo against the hosts, Sri Lanka, as she smashed her 11th ODI ton in some style. Her 116-run knock off 101 balls helped India post 342/7 in 50 overs while batting first.
After winning the all-important toss, Team India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur decided to bat first—a decision that left some fans surprised, but with a total of 342 on the board, it eventually proved to be the right call. Smriti played brilliantly, smashing 15 boundaries and two sixes. She played flawlessly and kept the scoreboard ticking.
Smriti Mandhana has now scored 264 runs in five innings in this Tri-Nation ODI Series
Before today’s match, in the group stage, she had scored 51 (63) and 36 (54) vs South Africa, and 18 (28) and 43 (46) vs Sri Lanka. Now, after today’s knock, Smriti has 264 runs in this tri-series from five innings at an average of 52.80.
In today’s clash, she was well supported by Harleen Deol, who made 47 runs off 56 balls. Along with them, captain Harmanpreet Kaur scored 41 runs off 30 balls, Jemimah Rodrigues smashed 44 runs off 29 balls, while Deepti Sharma remained unbeaten on 20 runs off 14 balls.
Smriti Mandhana has often been criticised for not scoring centuries or big runs in knockout games or big finals. Hence, this knock has come at the right time for her and for the team, especially considering that this series is part of their preparation for the upcoming home ODI series. This effort led India to post their fifth-highest total in the history of their Women’s ODI cricket.
